Mike’s primary areas of AXIS and actuarial expertise are annuity and A&H modeling.
Mike is a Senior Consulting Actuary at August Actuarial Consulting (AAC) with over 13 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Mike joins AAC from Moody’s Analytics, where he spent nearly five years in client support roles assisting with AXIS investigations, reconciliations, and enhancement requests for payout, deferred, indexed, and variable annuities. His experience also included:
- AXIS Client Support
- Acted as a key contact in multiple onboarding projects, coordinating enhancement timelines between clients and developers.
- Developed option value and RILA reconciliation examples, and maintained knowledge base articles on annuity reserving and indexed annuity modeling.
- Updated AXIS sample and sample-us datasets for ongoing developments.
- AXIS Training
- Administered regular training in DataLink, Annuities, Stochastic Processing, and AXIS Tools.
- Developed and delivered client requested training on topics such as RILA Modeling and Using AXIS GAAP Link.
- US GAAP LDTI Development
- Assisted in developing and testing functionality to produce and reconcile MRB cashflows by scenario.
- Presented in Moody’s Webinars covering updates in annuity and MRB modeling.
Prior to his time at Moody’s, Mike spent nine years at CNO Financial Group in roles covering a wide variety of products and functions. He supported an end-to-end financial transformation, including redesigning admin system data output, converting liability models using Polysystems, and facilitating transactional output into a ledger system. Mike assisted in corporate budget analysis and investigating M&A proposals, leading to the execution of a successful long term care transaction. He also managed reporting for deferred and indexed annuities, and later led a team of actuaries in valuation, cashflow testing, and loss recognition testing for supplemental health insurance products. Mike received a Mathematics degree from Purdue University.
