Rob is a Principal and Consulting Actuary at August Actuarial Consulting (AAC) with 34 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Prior to forming AAC, Rob was a Senior Director at Moody’s Analytics and a member of the AXIS Executive Committee. In Rob’s 15 years with GGY and Moody’s, he was responsible for selling AXIS in the U.S. market as both a sales manager and a front-line sales representative. As part of the sales effort, Rob, Ben, and Cathy would collaborate to build actuarial models in AXIS using prospective client’s product information, seriatim inforce extracts, actuarial assumptions, and valuation methodologies. These models were used to demonstrate key AXIS features including:
- Setting up an end-to-end model and process for numerous life, annuity, and health products
- Developed and reconciled base cells as the starting point for the model development process.
- Created DataLink processes to dynamically build model objects, including product features, assumptions, and other model inputs.
- Developed batch jobs to build a complete pricing model using the Base Cell template.
- Demonstrating pricing of insurance products under various profit metrics
- Adapted pricing models to seriatim valuation models based on client inforce extracts.
- Built illustrative Asset Cells and reusing seriatim valuation models to support CFT and other ALM projections.
Through this process Rob built hundreds of AXIS models and sold AXIS to more than 100 U.S. based insurance companies, reinsurers, and consultants.
With over 19 years of AXIS and actuarial system sales experience and through talking to hundreds of actuaries and IT professionals in the U.S. life insurance market, Rob has developed a deep understanding of the challenges and needs that companies face to build and maintain effective actuarial models. This unique set of insurance market and actuarial system knowledge allows Rob to develop effective solutions to meet complex actuarial model and process requirements.
Prior to Moody’s Rob worked at Metropolitan Life in several pricing and valuation roles and at Transamerica Reinsurance where he used AXIS to price reinsurance transactions. As part of the Product Consulting and Development team at Transamerica Re, Rob set up AXIS models to simultaneously price reinsurance transactions from both direct writer and reinsurer perspectives. In 2002, Rob started his sales career at Transamerica Reinsurance as a reinsurance sales representative, where he leveraged his actuarial knowledge and communication skills to effectively grow the business.
